The administration of Joe Biden in the United States has finally responded positively to the dire Corona situation in India. The United States has promised to provide additional assistance to India in the current situation after a long-standing request for raw materials for the coronavirus vaccine.
In a tweet on Sunday morning, Bangladesh time, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “I sympathize with the people of India in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.” We are working closely with our partners in the Government of India. We will quickly provide additional support to the people of India and to the heroes of India’s healthcare sector.
However, New Delhi has had to burn wood to get assurances from the Biden administration. India was not getting raw materials due to US administration restrictions on exports. This affects the supply of more than 35 important materials.
These materials are used by companies like Biological-E and Covishield’s manufacturer Serum Institute of India (SII). Serum officials said that raw materials are needed for the production of Covishield and Novavax.
Although Adar Punewala, CEO of Seram, claimed that the production of Kovishield was not affected due to the delay in the US. However, the production of NovaVax is being disrupted. Under such circumstances, India has long requested for the supply of raw materials for the coronavirus vaccine.
Punewala himself appealed to US President Joe Biden. Officials familiar with the matter said the issue of sending raw materials was raised by Indian Foreign Minister S Jayashankar during talks with the US Secretary of State on Monday. On the basis of that request, the US administration assured that the matter would be considered to find a solution.
